Nokia's secret plans for its 2014 smartphone lineup are beginning to leak, revealing new Windows Phone features such as 3D Touch, a "Siri-like assistant" built into the OS, and a new imaging flagship.
Windows Phone growth can be mainly attributed to Nokia and its Lumia smartphone line. The company took a huge risk by betting its entire future on a smartphone OS that wasn't even in the top five when it came to market share, Windows Phone.
It could have been easy for Nokia to jump on the Android bandwagon, considering the amount of available apps and carrier support it would have had, but it gave that up by partnering solely with Microsoft. Nokia has managed to make Windows Phone a contender in the smartphone race, taking Microsoft's OS and building upon it with its own software titles and enhancements.
There are just a few things missing from Windows Phone that would offer users higher-end features, especially when compared to iOS and Android. Nokia has a few tricks up its sleeve and a new report gives us some more details on upcoming Lumias and Windows Phone 8.1
Evleaks is providing us with the latest news on Nokia's upcoming smartphones.
"Nokia Goldfinger and Moneypenny are shaping up to be the first Windows Phone Blue devices," tweeted @evleaks.
The tipster then followed up with another tweet mentioning "3D Touch", two additional Windows Phone 8.1 smartphones, a Siri-like assistant, and a new imaging flagship.
Lumia news continued to pour, as The Verge followed up with some details about 3D Touch. Sources told the site that the smartphones will use hardware sensors to detect interactions that are off the glass. The feature would be very similar to Samsung's Air Gestures in the Galaxy S4, which allows you to interact with the smartphone through gestures, with no need for physical touch.
Microsoft has also been rumored to be working on a built-in digital assistant that would have Sir-like functionality. People have described 'Cortana' as being very similar to both Siri and Google Now and it's expected to be a major feature in WP 8.1. There were also recent rumors that Nokia is planning on launching a new flagship smartphone to replace the Lumia 1020 and its 41-megapixel camera. Leaked information claimed it will reportedly ship with a Lytro-like camera built-in.
Keep in mind that it's all in the rumor state for now, but we'll be sure to update you on any new details as soon as they become available.
