AT&T has announced that it will offer the Nokia Lumia 2520 tablet on Nov. 22 for $399.99 with a new 2-year contract or $199.99 when purchased with a select Nokia smartphone.
There were rumors that Nokia was going to enter the tablet game with a Windows tablet and try to recreate what it had done with smartphones running Microsoft's mobile operating system. When the tablet's name leaked as the Lumia 2520, it confirmed that Nokia planned on using its smartphone brand to market the tablet as well.
Nokia officially unveiled the slate at Nokia World back in October, alongside another new device, the Lumia 1520 phablet. Both the Lumia 2520 and the Lumia 1520 are very important, both being firsts for the company. The Lumia 1520 is the company's and the world's first Windows Phone phablet, while the Lumia 2520 marks Nokia's debut on the tablet market and attempt at trying to grow its new owner's Windows RT-based tablet offerings.
The Lumia 2520 has a striking resemblance to Microsoft's new Surface 2 tablet and offers pretty much the same functionality, as both tablets use Windows RT 8.1, not the full desktop version of Windows 8.1. The tablets can only run apps purchased in the Windows Store and not the millions of apps that run on Windows 8.
AT&T has announced that it will begin selling the Nokia Lumia 2520 on Nov. 22 for $399.99 when signing a new 2-year contract. The carrier will also knock $200 off the price for customers who purchase the tablet along with a Lumia 925, Lumia 1020, or Lumia 1520 smartphone.
The Nokia Lumia 2520 features a 10.1-inch 1920 x 1080 Full HD ClearBlack IPS LCD display with a pixel density of 219 pixels per inch (ppi). The tablet runs Windows RT 8.1, is powered by a quad-core 2.2Ghz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, and 2GB of RAM. It includes 32GB of internal storage and a microSD expansion slot that will support up to 32GB of additional memory.
Its camera capabilities include a 6.7-megapixel rear camera with Carl Zeiss optics, digital 4x zoom and auto focus, as well as a 2-megapixel front-facing camera for video chat. Users will also find a USB 3.0 port, 4G LTE radio, Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, and non-removable 8,000 mAh battery. AT&T will offer the Lumia 2520 in black.
Interested buyers will be able to purchase the Nokia Lumia 2520 online and in AT&T retail stores on Nov. 22.
