Valve Reveals a Much-Awaited Feature Is Coming With Counter-Strike 2

Buying the wrong item is no longer an issue in Counter-Strike 2 (CS2).

Valve recently revealed that CS2 players would no longer need to stick a weapon, armor, or item they bought on accident while kiting up before a round starts, thanks to a new refund feature coming to the game soon.

Valve has set Counter-Strike 2 for release sometime in 2023, though it didn't give an exact release date for fans to look forward to.

Counter-Strike 2 Item Refund Details

Valve posted a video on its official CS2 Twitter page with a caption stating that players will soon be able to sell their purchased item back and buy something else again during a round's buy time at the start of a match.

This feature allows players who have bought the wrong weapon, armor, or item on accident to get a refund and get the one they want instead - a feature most if not all, Counter-Strike (CS) players have been asking Valve to implement in the past.

To get a refund for a wrongly bought item players will need to click on the counter-clockwise arrow located at the lower left corner of the item's icon while on the buy menu. The game will automatically take away that item and provide a refund for players to spend on what they want to buy originally, as demoed in the video Valve posted.

As of press time, the refund feature is not available on Counter-Strike: Global Offensive due to its strict no refunds policy, per Games Radar. As such, a player buying the wrong item on accident means they're either stuck with it or forced to spend more money to buy a different weapon on top of the one they got on accident.

The same isn't true with, Valorant, CS' only competition in the tactical shooter space. The game came with a way to refund wrongly purchased items at launch, making its entire buy menu more forgiving than Valve's.

CS players welcomed the news of a refund option with welcome arms, with replies ranging from happy tweets to excited ones, though there are some people who had a negative reception of the news due to Valorant's possible influence on CS.

Counter-Strike 2 Details

CS2, according to Valve's previous announcement, is a free update to CS:GO and would serve as an overhaul to "every system, every piece of content, and every part of the C-S experience." The video game company mentioned it would be built on Source 2, its new in-house engine, resulting in a significantly noticeable improvement in graphical fidelity.

Players can expect some sub-tick updates that allow the game's servers to know the instant a player move, fires their weapon, or throws a grenade. Meanwhile, they can also expect to have all the cosmetics they had on CS:GO on CS2; Valve mentioned all cosmetics from CS:GO, such as weapon skins and other cosmetics, will carry over to CS2.
