The Last of Us fans are in for a surprise this week.
The first part of the popular survival horror series is now playable on Steam Deck following a PC patch Naughty Dog recently launched.
The Last of Us Part 1 was previously unbearable to play due to its graphical issues and bugs upon release.
The Last of Us Part 1 Patch Details
Naughty Dog mentioned in a tweet on June 13 that the latest patch for The Last of Us Part 1, patch 1.1, contains performance improvements and fixes for various crashes, issues, and other problems the game has on PC.
Thanks to the patch, The Last of Us Part 1 players no longer need to worry about the consequences of ignoring the flashlight tutorial and exiting the game's menus, which previously meant losing the ability to aim or shoot immediately after. The patch also addressed the game's PC port graphical and technical issues, such as inconsistent frame rates, long load times, and poor optimization, per Eurogamer.
The game developer also took the chance to officially declare that The Last of Us Part 1 is Steam Deck verified, meaning that gamers can now play the game on Valve's handheld gaming console without issue.
A quick look into the patch notes the game developer posted on its official website also showed that the patch contains fixes and improvements for the game's Steam Deck version, meaning that gamers will get an enhanced experience when playing the game on the Steam Deck thanks to these improvements and fixes.
These improvements and fixes include the following:
- Overall improvements to performance while playing on Steam Deck
- A fix to a memory leak issue that could cause crashes
- A solution for an issue where certain button prompts would be misaligned
- A fix for an issue where changing (Options > Graphics > Graphics Preset) could trigger an intense lighting effect
- A correction to an issue where in-game HUD did not match Steam Deck Performance Overlay FPS value
- A fix to crashes that could occur during loading screens
- An improvement that allows Effects Density to default to Very Low instead of Low
The Last of Us Part 1 PC Release Fiasco
Patch 1.1's arrival has been a long time coming for fans of the series. It means that not only is The Last of Us Part 1 playable on the Steam Deck, but it is also playable on the PC without it being unbearable because of the bugs and issues surrounding it.
As such, the game will no longer take hours to properly load, give characters hair akin to those from the PS2 era of video game consoles, and have sudden, unexpected raves when players enter buildings, as Game Rant reported during the game's release on PC.
It is still unclear if Iron Galaxy, the developer who handled the game's PC port, as well as those of Batman: Arkham Knight and Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection, had a hand in the game's many issues as of press time.
