It's been a long time coming, especially since the app's release will be four years after it was announced. It took so long that people assumed it was simply discontinued, but here it is, set to be released this July to help you track your sleep.
It's not really a game, which is understandably what people would quickly assume since Pokémon is known for three things, its cards, its shows, and its games. It's more of a Pokémon-themed sleep tracker where you get to "catch 'em all."
You'll mainly be seeing a lot of the lovable fluffy giant Snorlax, a character synonymous with sleep in the Pokémon world. The more sleep you get that's recorded by the app, the more Snorlax can use that as "drowsy power," as mentioned in Engadget.
It's all about sleep in the app, specifically about how you sleep. For example, moving around a lot in your sleep might get you a visit from Togepi with its "Rocking Sleep" style. If you snore in your sleep, Jigglypuff might show up and sing with its "Singing Sleep" style.
The app will use your device's microphone and accelerometer sensors to accurately track your movements and the sounds you make, which is how other sleep trackers function as well, only this time, you'll get to collect Pokémon for it.
For all the hours you spend asleep, you can expand your collection and fill your "Sleep Style Dex." While you're awake, you can interact with Snorlax by giving him berries to eat and specialized drinks, although sleep is the only way to actually "progress."
If you have a Pokémon Go Plus bracelet, you can pair it with the app and start the sleep tracker with a press of a button. Using the bracelet also increases your chance to collect the Pikachu wearing a nightcap. You can get the device for $30 if you want to.
