OpenAI’s GPT-4 is Now Accessible to Developers Through Its API

OpenAI is one of the leading AI companies in the tech sector, especially after its release of the chatbot, ChatGPT. It has since been developing more powerful AI models like GPT-4, and it just announced its availability to developers through its API.

GPT-4 Accessible Through Its API

OpenAI making GPT-4 available after what they claim are millions of developers requesting access to its API since March. Although, only the ones with a "history of successful payments" can do so by the end of the month. Even then, only select developers will have access.

The AI company will have to factor in its compute availability, and only then will it increase availability limits for access itself. OpenAI says that it "envisions a future where chat-based models can support any use case," as mentioned in Tech Crunch.

What makes GPT-4 more powerful than its predecessors like GPT-3.5 is that it's not limited to text-based input only. It is capable of accepting image input as well, and it is trained using publicly available data like public web pages along with data that OpenAI licensed.

Despite it having a wider range of training materials, there are still noticeable flaws in the latest AI model from OpenAI. Reports say that it fabricates facts and reasoning errors, even pushing that they are facts. It also generates codes that contain several security vulnerabilities.

The company is still developing the model to try to get it as close to perfect as possible. It also has a higher context window of 32,000 tokens, which means that conversations can be more fluid as it remembers contexts from previous topics and conversations.

As OpenAI works on GPT-4, its previous models will soon be shut down. By early January 2024, models like GPT-3 will no longer be accessible as they would be replaced by a new "base GPT-3" that will be more efficient. This means that developers will also have to upgrade their systems.

The AI giant will provide support to the "users who previously fine-tuned models" so that the transition would go smoothly. OpenAI will also reach out to developers m the coming weeks who are still using older models to provide more information on early testing of the new models.

How Advanced is GPT-4?

As it studies the data available online, it can also analyze human logic other than just factual data. It has already been proven to be smarter than its predecessor, which is used in the standard ChatGPT service.

For example, Kevin Roose from The New York Times tried asking the AI about the ethics of stealing food to feed a starving family. While GPT-4 acknowledged that it was wrong, it "believed" that a tough situation could justify such actions.

It is also capable of creating a website with just a photo of a sketch. Greg Brockman, OpenAI's president, was able to create a functioning website with all working buttons after instructing the AI model to create computer codes and use HTML and JavaScript.
