As Nokia launches its first Windows tablet, the company is offering a free Power Keyboard ($149 value) when purchasing a Lumia 2520 before Dec. 2.
Nokia has just entered the tablet game with the launch of the Lumia 2520. The slate ships with the latest version of Windows RT 8.1, which can also be found on Microsoft's new Surface 2. That's not the only similarity between the tablets, as Nokia is taking a page out of Microsoft's playbook and is offering a free Nokia Power Keyboard by mail (a $149 value) for a limited time.
Microsoft used this same move when it was trying to move inventory of its previous-generation Surface tablets. Many reviewers panned Microsoft's tablets and one of the major criticisms was that the company should include the keyboard it so heavily promotes in commercials and print ads, showing the detachable keyboard snapping into the Surface. When Microsoft began offering a free keyboard cover with the purchase of a Surface RT, it saw sales of the tablet increase (the price cut also helped).
The Nokia Lumia 2520 is currently available from AT&T and Verizon, and Nokia has announced that it will offer a free Nokia Power Keyboard by mail with the purchase of a Lumia 2520 between now and Dec. 2. The Power Keyboard is priced at $149 and is listed as "coming soon" on Nokia's site. The keyboard is multifunctional - it can be snapped on to be a protective cover for the Lumia 2520, it provides up to 5 hours of extra battery life, and also has a touch pad built in.
Nokia's new tablet features a 10.1-inch 1920 x 1080 Full HD ClearBlack IPS LCD display with a pixel density of 219 pixels per inch (ppi). The Lumia 2520 is powered by a fast 2.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor and 2GB of RAM to provide a snappy user experience.
The company has added a 6.7-megapixel rear camera with Carl Zeiss optics and 4x digital zoom and a 2-megapixel front facing camera for video chat. The tablet ships with 32GB of internal storage and includes a microSD expansion slot that will support up to 32GB microSD cards. As previously mentioned, Verizon and AT&T are both offering the Lumia 2520 and the device has a 4G LTE radio built-in to run on the carriers' 4G networks. You'll also find the usual Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, NFC, and GPS for additional wireless connectivity. Nokia has included a large non-removable 8,000 mAh battery that can store an 80% charge in just one hour.
If you're thinking about buying a Lumia 2520, you should definitely do it before Dec. 2 and fill out the form on Nokia's site to get your free Nokia Power Keyboard.
