EA officially announced Project Rene or the next installment of The Sims during the Behind The Sims Summit Stream Event last October 2022.
During the Behind the Sims: Community Stream Episode 2, The Sims team provided an update on the developments of Project Rene.
"We're building many different elements of this game in parallel, almost like prepping all of our ingredients before we could bring them together and bake a cake," creative director for Project Rene Gina stated during the stream.
Although the release might be far from now, The Sims team assured that people around the world are continuously working on developing Project Rene before its public release.
Project Rene Developments
Stu, the art and visual effect director for Project Rene shared six latest major developments such as lighting, animation, sim routines, early simulation, hair styles, and socialization.
"We're exploring some new lightning technologies that will enable us to create highly customizable spaces and let players tell emotional resonant stories that will look great on your computer and on your phone," Stu explained.
In addition, various attitudes, emotions, and postures will be added to reflect true emotions of the sims.
"We're really leaning into just clear, playful, simple visuals that will start giving us a feel for how much information is too much, too little," Project Rene producer, Jill shared.
The Sims 5 Release Date
EA has yet to confirm the official release date for The Sims 5. However, based on previous The Sims installments it s likely to take years before it is out to play.
Moreover, with The Sims 4 now available as free to play there are rumors that The Sims 5 base game will be available as free as well.
Currently, Project Rene is incorporating playtesting by collecting input from The Sims community.
"One of the challenging things about testing The Sims is that it is a highly customizable experience with a high degree of interactivity," game director Grant stated.
