Newly Updated Fitbit Charge 5 smartwatches might not work as intended.
Fitbit customers have recently raised the alarm about the latest update's negative and fatal effects on their Fitbit Charge 5.
The Fitbit Charge 5 helps people m keep in shape and maintain their good health by tracking the wearer's sleep, heart rate, and sleep - even the quality of their sleep.
Fitbit Charge 5 v194.61 Update Issue Details
Fitbit's v194.61 update for its Charge 5 smartwatch is quite a hefty one. According to Fitbit's changelog, the update made all exercise modes available in the Exercise app, with it putting the most recent ones users opened at the top.
It also provides new clock faces for users to enjoy in the Fitbit app's Gallery and a premium-only feature that lets users view their readiness score on the watch's tracker. Last but not least, v194.61 comes with language support for Arabic, Hebrew, Thai, Hindi, and Vietnamese, along with bug fixes and improvements, enhancing the smartwatch's accessibility and overall performance.
However, Fitbit's update did more than what the changelog said it would. According to Android Authority, Fitbit customers have published multiple reports on the Fitbit Forums stating that their Fitbit Charge 5 became unresponsive after they installed the smartwatch's latest update, essentially bricking them and making them unusable.
Other users mentioned that their Fitbit Charge 5 smartwatch drained their battery excessively, eventually leading to a black screen. Regardless, all issues seem to be connected to users updating their Charge 5 smartwatch with Fitbit's v194.61 update, and therein lies the problem.
There doesn't seem to be any way to stop Charge 5 smartwatches from auto-updating, meaning that unaffected users will eventually suffer the same problem others experienced. Whether Fitbit had paused the update's rollout is still unknown, as new Charge 5 bricking reports are still coming as of press time.
The only solution Fitbit presented so far for customers is buying a new Charge 5 from its store to replace their defective smartwatch if it is still under warranty. Charge 5 users who intend to take Fitbit's advice need not worry about shelling out money. The company's customer support said that Fitbit is allegedly offering a 35% discount code so people can replace their Charge 5 with a new device from their store.
Whether Fitbit and/or Google, Fitbit's parent company, is working on a solution that would fix the problem is still up for debate - the company has yet to address the situation officially.
