Meta just dropped its newest video call feature using avatars for Instagram and Messenger.
"Whether you're Instagram famous, a casual doomscroller, or an adventurer about to head off on some daring VR exploits, your Meta Avatar lets you represent yourself seamlessly and hang out with others across the metaverse," Meta wrote on a blog post.
Activating the Meta Avatar on call will result into an animated video call, without actually seeing each others faces.
Not Camera Ready? Meta Avatars Is the Answer
The idea of creating real-time calls using the avatar stemmed from a third option between camera-off and camera-on dilemma during video calls.
"We've all been there: A call comes in but your hair looks like a hot mess. Or you've just been bawling your eyes out while re-watching From Scratch for the umpteenth time (no judgment). Sometimes, we're just not camera-ready," Meta shared.
The new feature is a perfect choice for people who does not want to show their face but would like to provide some sense of presence during a video call.
The real-time calling with Meta Avatars is now available for iOS and Android users.
