Video game addiction is not a new topic.

In fact, World Health Organization recognized Gaming Disorder as a mental condition that results in "significant impairment to a person's functioning in personal, family, social, educational, occupational or other important areas, and would normally have been evident for at least 12 months."

Moreover, The Guardian has reported that some video games companies are using tricks similar to gambling methods to lure big spenders and video games addict.

With that, here are some tips to prevent falling into the rabbit hole of gaming addiction:

Set Limits on Gaming Time

Players should decide how many hours they will only spend on gaming per day and per week. Most importantly, they should be able to stick to it.

Taking breaks for a few days will also help in clearing your head, assessing your situation, and get back to your normal day-to-day schedule.

Identify Your Triggers

Being self-aware of your problem and challenges in gaming might help in assessing the addiction.

For instance, you may list things that entices you to play video games. Give reasons on why you engage with the game on such long hours and reflect on how you can decrease the need to play it.
