Tesla Finally Begins Long-Delayed Cybertruck Production

Tesla's Cybertruck will soon be coming to customers.

The popular automaker recently announced it had finished building its first Cybertruck unit and will soon begin mass production to make its first deliveries soon.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk previously announced Tesls will begin production of the Cyberpunk in 2021.

Elon Musk's Lofty Promises

Musk has been known to make outrageous promises sometimes. You may recall he repeatedly promised Tesla would achieve full car autonomy in the past few years to no avail, only to make that same promise during the 2023 World Artificial Intelligence Conference in Shanghai, China.

He also promised in 2019 that the company would produce and deliver its first Cybertrucks in 2021 - a year that has come and gone.

Finally, the company announced via Twitter it had produced its first Cybertruck unit at its production line in Texas on July 15, just before its second quarter 2023 earnings call. The Cybertruck's production follows Musk's prediction during the company's second-quarter financial report.

In addition, Musk also mentioned at Tesla's 2023 annual shareholder's meeting in May that the company could deliver between 250,000 to 500,000 units per year once production begins, per Tech Crunch. Mass production will begin before 2024 ends, while delivery could be set at the same period.

Tesla cited standard supply chain issues and problems in sourcing components as its reasons for delaying the Cybertruck's production and release. It may also have to do with quality assurance as the vehicle's designer cracked the vehicle's supposedly unbreakable "armor glass" windows when Musk introduced the cCybertruck's concept in 2019, per Reuters.

You may recall that a whistleblower leaked 100GB of files to the German publication Handelsblatt in Jan. 2022 that showed the Cybertruck's preproduction prototypes had serious braking, powertrain, suspension, sealing, and structural issues.

Although Musk revealed that mass production would begin later in 202, analysts will be on the lookout during Tesla's Q2 earnings call on July 19 for more concrete details on production, delivery, and specifications.

Regardless, Tesla's promise that it will begin production soon is a blessing for the more than 1.5 million customers that made reservations for the truck - it's been two years since its promised release, after all.

Possible Changes To Cybertruck's Specifications?

Tesla's Cybertruck sounded like it came out of a sci-fi film when it was first introduced in 2019. A closer look at the vehicle's interior reveals that the Cybertruck can sit six people, which is a feature familiar to pick-up truck owners, per a 2022 Carwow report.

The vehicle's yoke-shaped steering also looks like the truck came from CD Projekt Red's Cyberpunk 2077 game. it also comes with a 7-inch touchscreen at the front of the car's interior, where a regular vehicle's radio and air conditioning controls would have been.

Carwow's recent report showed Tesla made a few changes. Instead of yoke-shaped steering, the Cybertruck may come with a square, two-spoke steering wheel.

The touchscreen is still present, while the truck's interior still features the minimalist style Tesla is known for. It doesn't have much else apart from the screen. The truck is still made up of flat, unpainted stainless steel panels, along with a few triangular mirrors that weren't present in 2019.

Here's hoping Tesla changed the glass mirrors to make the truck truly "armored."
