Pokemon GO is giving players a do-over of Squirtle's Community Day event.
Niantic recently announced it is launching a makeup event of the Squirtle July 2023 Community Day Classic event for players that couldn't complete it in time due to login issues.
Pokemon Go has been hosting minor and major events at regular intervals, like Community Day celebrations, since it grew into a worldwide phenomenon, per Game Rant.
A Missed Opportunity
Pokemon GO's Squirtle Community Day Classic event went live on July 9 much to players' delight. It allowed players to encounter Squirtle "in the wild" more frequently, giving them a better chance to catch one.
The event even features a shiny Squirtle and a sunglasses-wearing variant (and its Shiny counterpart).
While many players got to enjoy the monthly event, many more couldn't acquire one because many Pokemon Go players experienced login issues preventing them from logging into the AR game. This issue caused them to mostly (or entirely) miss the event.
For those unaware, Community Days are special events that feature a single Pokemon that appears more frequently for a limited period. As such, players who have yet to encounter that Pokemon or need more Candy to evolve it profit much from this.
The event also provides extra benefits, such as an increased chance of Shiny Pokemon appearing or special attacks being unlocked when evolving the featured Pokemon. As such, many players are left unsatisfied with the event and disappointed with Niantic's response.
To compensate players who couldn't participate in the event because of login issues, Niantic decided to launch a makeup event for Squirtle's Community Day, giving players another chance to catch a Squirtle (or a shiny one) for themselves, per the company's announcement.
Pokemon GO Squirtle Community Day Makeup Event Mechanics
The makeup event will become available for all players on July 23 from 2 PM to 5 PM local time. As previously mentioned, Squirtle and its sunglasses-wearing variant (and their Shiny counterparts) will become more frequent in the wild.
The event also features Blastoise's Charged Attack Hydro Cannon as a featured attack. Players that evolve a Wartortle (Squirtle's evolution) during the event up until 7:00 PM local time will get a Blastoise that already knows the featured attack.
Other event bonuses include a 1/4 Egg Hatch Distance when Eggs are placed in an Incubator during the event period, while Lure Modules remain active for three hours while the event's ongoing. Incense (excluding Daily Adventure Incense) activated during the event will also last for three hours.
Last but not least, taking a few screenshots of the game during Community Day gives players a surprise.
The makeup event also gives players access to the Community Day's Special Research story, which still requires $1 (or the equivalent pricing tier in players' local currency) to acquire a Ticket to access it. The Ticket is still nonrefundable, and the Special Research story does not include an in-game medal.
