A PlayStation 5 Pro could be on the horizon for PlayStation gamers.
Sony is reportedly testing a demo version of the PS5 Pro for any flaws and potential improvements, with the company allegedly planning to give developers kits to try it before 2023 ends.
There have been rumors about Sony developing a new model for the PS5, but none of them were about a PS5 Pro.
PS5 Pro Leaked Details, Features
Sony's PS5 Pro has a lot of power within it if the recent leaks are to be believed. According to TCMFGames' Twitter post, which cites leaker Tom Henderson as its source, PlayStation gamers can expect the PS5 Pro to have improved and consistent FPS at 4K resolution.
The PS5 Pro would also have a new "performance mode" that gives it the ability to play games at 8K resolution. Whether this performance mode means that PlayStation gamers can overclock the gaming console's hardware to play games at 8K resolution is unknown.
However, the opposite could be possible. The PS5 Pro could have hardware capable of displaying games at 8K resolution without overclocking its hardware.
Additionally, the PS5 Proc could have accelerated ray tracing for a better gaming experience, presumably without affecting the PS5 Pro's capacity for consistent FPS. The gaming console could also feature 18,000 MT/s memory and 30 WGP (workgroup processor).
Sony allegedly plans to give out dev kits to most gaming studios sometime in late November, with the company already launching demo events to see the PS5 Pro's flaws and potential areas of improvement.
As of press time, the PS5 Pro is known within the company as "Project Trinity." According to Key To Gaming, the codename follows Sony's trend of naming its projects with character names from "The Matrix" movies. The PlayStation 4 Pro was previously codenamed "Neo," while the PlayStation VR was codenamed "Morpheus."
The leak states that the PS5 Pro is hitting store shelves sometime in Nov. 2024, which is four years since the original model came out, per Sportskeeda. While it's prudent to take this release date with a few pinches of salt, Sony did release the PS4 Pro three years after it launched the original one.
Other Upcoming PS5 Models
The PS5 Pro is not the only PS5 Model Sony is working on. You may remember that Henderson's sources previously revealed that Sony would probably release the PS5 model with a detachable disc drive sometime in the middle of FY 2023, specifically around Sept. 2023.
This model will completely replace the PS5 chassis currently available on the market, which has been in production since the PS5's launch. These chassis denote changes in the video game console's hardware, with altered heatsinks, fans, and even a new motherboard.
Whether the PS5 Pro will offer a physical- and digital-exclusive model similar to its original model is still debatable, though Sony may make the PS5 Pro digital-only while giving it support for the detachable disc drive.
