Meta’s Horizon Worlds To Get a UFC-Themed Experience Soon

Meta's investment in the Metaverse is still going strong.

The tech giant recently announced that it had partnered with the UFC to bring the people who enjoy Horizon Worlds a UFC-themed experience for them to try.

Meta previously shut down Horizon Worlds' event creation tool as it wasn't living up to the community's needs.

Meta mentioned in its announcement that Horizon Worlds players can experience the "drama and excitement" of live MMA action featured on UFC Fight Pass with Horizon Worlds in Xtadium from YBVR.

Horizon Worlds players can expect 4K resolution and 180-degree VR capture as they watch and experience live immersive fights with cage-side fights for free in Xtadium. According to Craig Borsari, UFC's Chief Content Officer and Executive Producer, the UFC previously tested the technology to bring live MMA fights to VR successfully with a few events.

"We're just scratching the surface of how we can use this technology to create greater fan engagement and grow this sport," Borsari added.

YBVR uses advanced compression techniques and adaptive bitrate streaming which adjusts the quality of the video in real time according to the viewer's network conditions. This decision ensures that Horizon Worlds players get the best viewing experience and optimal video resolution for live games and fights in Xtadium.

It also helps ensure a "smooth, high-quality stream" even under fluctuating bandwidths - YBVR's streaming technology allegedly utilizes bandwidth effectively, delivering high-resolution video with lower latency.

Horizon Worlds players can look forward to watching the following events in the Xtadium and seeing YBVR's technology in action and MMA fights virtually:

  • August 4: LFA 164
  • August 18: LFA 165
  • September 8: Cage Warriors 159
  • September 22: LFA 168
  • October 6: LFA 169
  • October 27: LFA 170
  • November 17: LFA 171
  • December 9: Fight Pass Invitational 6
  • December 15: Cage Warriors 165

Meta Director of Metaverse Entertainment Content Sarah Malkin commended what Meta's partnership with UFC made possible - bringing UFC events to people who couldn't attend in person. She added that "VR offers uniquely immersive events, letting fans get up close and personal for every takedown, submission, and knockout with UFC Fight Pass in Xtadium and Worlds."

Meta's Workings With The Metaverse So far

Meta has yet to give up on its investments in the Metaverse despite its pivot to the AI trend. According to The Verge, the company recently launched Super Rumble, a first-person shooter Horizon Worlds players can play on Meta's social VR platform.

Meta mentioned in a blog post about the game that Super Rumble was "the first of many... experiences to come that will showcase improvements like better graphics, deeper gameplay, and a variety of quests and rewards."

Meta could also be launching the mobile version of Horizon Worlds soon, though it's difficult to say when it would exactly do just that. However, what is sure is that the company is also working on a web version for its social VR platform.
