Fans of the Netflix series "The Witcher," can probably still remember the reaction they had the first time they heard about Henry Cavill leaving the show. Not only were people angry about it, a lot are actually saying that they won't be watching the fourth season.
The next release will be the first season that will not feature Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia, which everyone agrees was the perfect casting. Despite that, the show still has a chance to survive all the backlash, and here's why.
People Will Be Curious
The last episode of the third season finished off with one hell of a cliffhanger. If not for Geralt, people will still be curious about what will happen next for Cirilla and Yennefer. In Ciri's final moments in the season, she went through what others believe is a crucible.
The ashen-haired protagonist suffered through the desert and hallucinated other characters that were trying to convince her that she was a failure. And then there's Falka, who's playing the devil's advocate convincing Ciri to let go and burn everything to the ground.
Afraid that she might actually become like the sadistic Falka, she relinquished her powers. Just when we all thought that she gave up immense power to avoid becoming evil, she tells the Rats to call her Falka anyway.
As for Yennefer of Vengerberg, we are about to see her in a position of leadership. With Tissaia gone, she will soon have to step up to rally the mages and defend themselves. Besides, there's so much more to the trio's story that hasn't been explored yet.
Viewers Will Want to See How The Show Transitions Geralt
If you've watched the latest season, then you're probably one of the people who was expecting some kind of clue as to how Geralt's appearance change will be addressed. As far as we know, the showrunners never gave one.
Geralt, along with Jaskier and Milva, was last seen heading to Nilfgaard to take Ciri away from Emhyr var Emreis, not knowing that who they're actually trying to rescue is false Ciri, an impostor who will play a part in the emperor's climb to more power.
It is yet another thing that people will be curious to see. Even though many would not agree or will refuse to acknowledge it, Liam Hemsworth, the actor who will replace Henry Cavill, actually looks more like Geralt in the games.
He's been getting a lot of misdirected hate after the news broke of him taking over the role, but he might actually do well. Just to point it out, both look far from the book Geralt since his face was described as horrendous and full of scars, and he was skinny as well.
Not Everyone Has Read the Source Material
Some of the show's fans have not actually read the book or played the game. For them, the show is just like any other. They have no expectations of how the characters should look or how the events would transpire.
Despite that, a lot are still upset about Cavill leaving the show, mostly because it's a well-known fact that the actor is a fan of both the games and the books, but also because he portrayed the character so well. Still, fans might be surprised at the outcome if they gave the fourth season a chance.
