Samsung SM-W750V: Galaxy S4-like Windows Phone on the way?

A new report claims that Samsung may be getting ready to launch a new high-end Windows Phone smartphone with specs similar to the Galaxy S4.

It's no secret that Samsung likes to enter a market, gain some traction, and then flood it with devices that appeal to high-end users all the way down to those looking inexpensive entry-level devices. The company accounts for a major chunk of Android's smartphone market share due to the popularity of its Galaxy smartphones and Galaxy Note phablets. There have been numerous reports that Samsung is trying to lessen its dependence on Google ever since the company acquired Samsung's rival, Motorola.

Samsung has already partnered with Intel on Tizen OS, a mobile operating system created by the companies as an alternative to Android, iOS, and Windows Phone. Samsung hasn't released many Windows Phone-based smartphones so far, but things might be about to change, as a new report suggests the company may be getting ready to get serious about growing its Windows Phone market share with a high-end smartphone that could be very similar to its flagship Galaxy S4.

A new Samsung smartphone has shown up on Indian shipping company Zauba's site with the model number SM-W750V. It shows that the device is for research and development purposes and another entry shows that the mobile phone has a display size of 5-inches.

According to SamMobile, the SM-W750V listing on Zauba's site reveals the price of the device being Rs. 33,245 ($540 USD). The site claims this would put the unreleased smartphone in flagship pricing territory.

The site goes on to suggest that Nokia's more than 90 percent share of Windows Phone smartphones seems to have caught Samsung's attention and the Korean device maker is possibly getting ready to do with Windows Phone what it did with Android. The report also claims the device could have very similar specs to the Galaxy S4.

The latest update to Windows Phone adds support for high-end specs such as 5 - 7-inch 1080p Full HD displays and the ability to use the same top-of-the-line quad-core processors Samsung uses in its current flagship Android smartphones.

As with all leaks of unannounced devices, we'll have to file this in the rumor category for now. We'll be sure to keep you updated on the SM-W750V as soon as more information becomes available.
