The "Thumbs Up" feature is a convenient tool for us to help the streaming platform determine the kinds of shows and movies we want to be recommended to us. With it being available on screen while content is playing, users can submit ratings in the middle of watching.
Easier Rating System
With Netflix updating its mobile app, you can now express how you feel about a show or movie while you're in the middle of watching it. Upon tapping the screen, the rating system will appear above the screen along with the other buttons.
Originally, users will have to go to the movie or show's page before they can rate it. Now, they'll be able to see the thumbs down, thumbs up, and double thumbs up icons immediately, so there will be no need to exit what's playing currently.
A Netflix spokesperson says that you might be "so in the zone with a series you really love that you forget to go to its details page to give it a Double Thumbs Up," adding that it's one easy step that can help Netflix suggest more films and series tailored to a user's taste, according to Tech Crunch.
The update will probably encourage viewers more to leave a rating, just as it did when the feature was launched six years ago. According to the streaming service, there was a 200% increase in activity after the rating system was added.
If you don't know what the feature does, it allows Netflix to create an algorithm for recommendations that fits your taste. It's not just about knowing whether a title is well-liked by the streaming platform's audiences.
It's also important to curate your recommendations yourself, especially with Netflix's upcoming new feature called "My Netflix." It will compile all the movies a user wants to watch, although it won't work if the shows they like aren't rated.
What's 'My Netflix' and How Does It Work?
The new tab can be found at the bottom right corner where the downloads used to be. Instead of your recommendations being mixed in with the other shows that Netflix offers, it will be in one convenient tab along with other content that you've earmarked.
The downloads tab no longer exists but it is included in the new personalized tab. It will also hold the movies and shows you've added to your lists, as well as the shows on your "Continue Watching" roster.
If you've watched the trailer of a movie or series, it will also appear in your "My Netflix" list. With that said, you'll need a certain amount of interaction with the main tab of the streaming platform before your personalized tab is created.
That means you'll have to make an effort to rate the shows you like and don't like, which is now easier since Netflix added the rating system to the screen while a show or movie is playing. When you run out of things to watch, you can just go back to the main interface again.
