Engineering and innovation often go hand and hand. In the case of Mahmoodreza Forootan, a scientist and lead engineer, he sees cyber-physical systems as a critical tool that will revolutionize the field of engineering.

Mahmoodreza is a distinguished scientist and a lead engineer with a background in cyber-physical systems in engineering as well as experience in electromechanical engineering.

His story began at the University of Kashan where he pursued his Bachelor's degree in the Mechanical Engineering Department. He ranked 1st out of all the students in the department and continued to perform outstandingly-earning awards and accolades for his work.

He went on to rank 6th out of 20,000 students in the nationwide entrance examination for M.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering.

Eventually, he set his sights on his Ph.D. at Sharif University of Technology. It was there that he worked on a groundbreaking project, involving, in his words: "...creating a cyber-physical system which creates a real-time relationship between a 3-axis milling machine and a virtual model using the Unity game engine."

Using virtual technology, Mahmoodreza was able to simulate the material removal process and predict machining forces by leveraging experimental force sensor data. With MATLAB scripting, he devised intelligent methods to analyze the sensor data during the milling process.

This resulted in a novel intelligent calibration technique that can be used to calibrate model coefficients using sensory data.

In layman's terms, he was able to streamline the calculation and calibration process, which in turn saved time and introduced a new, innovative, and efficient technique to the field.

After graduating, he pursued a career as a senior engineer in a prominent locomotive company. He comments: "This invaluable experience provided me with insights into mechanical design, fabrication, and professional drawings, enabling me to lead a team of experienced engineers."

Using 3D CAD design, he created intricate models and led the fabrication process to create full-packaged locomotive brakes and pneumatic valves. He also spearheaded the design and fabrication of complex electro-mechanical test benches.

On that note, Mahmoodreza comments: "The fusion of my mechatronic background from my Ph.D. research with real-world applications proved instrumental in creating these test benches."

Apart from his career, he works to further advance the field of engineering. In that pursuit, he has published papers including one on dynamic modeling of a complex-constrained robot by Cambridge University Press - Robotica. He currently has two more papers awaiting publication in the fields of virtualization and intelligent data analysis of the milling processes.

One of the greatest lessons Mahmoodreza has learned throughout his engineering journey is to never stop learning. On that note, he advises other aspiring engineers to:

Never stop learning. The world is constantly evolving, and staying updated with the latest advancements is crucial. Seek out opportunities for professional development, pursue additional certifications, attend workshops, and engage in lifelong learning. The more knowledge and skills you acquire, the more equipped you become to tackle complex tasks and seize new opportunities.

All in all, Mahmoodreza Forootan is an accomplished mechanical engineer bringing new innovation to the field through his utilization of cyber physical systems.
