Taylor Swift's "1989" album is back in her hands.
The popular singer-songwriter recently announced she is soon releasing a re-record of her 1989 album, and that fans can now pre-order it.
Swift's 1989 album originally hit store shelves on Oct. 2014 through Big Machine Records, per Billboard.com.
The Return of 1989
Taylor Swift recently announced through her official Twitter/X.com account that she will release a re-record of her 1989 album soon. According to her post, her re-recording of 1989 was her "most favorite" she had ever done because "the 5 From the Vault tracks are so insane."
Swift's announcement didn't come as a surprise, though. According to a report from Deadline, she alluded to the album's re-record when she broke the news to the Los Angeles crowd on the final night of the 2023 U.S. leg of The Eras Tour.
She did so by pointing to the string of blue outfits she had worn during the show, including the one she had on for the announcement. "I think instead of just like telling you about it, I think I'll just sort of show you something," Swift also said on stage, while pointing to a screen with "1989" displayed on it.
The re-recorded 1989 album will feature 21 songs, including five unreleases tracks from the vault, as Swift mentioned in her Twiiter/X.com page, per Fox News. In comparison, 1989's 2014 release featured 13 songs on the standard version and 16 songs on the deluxe edition.
Swift mentioned that she was excited to announce the release date of her re-recording of 1989 as the album helped change her life in countless ways. It also means a lot to her to reclaim pieces of her work from Big Machine Records, who "sold her masters" in 2019.
Swift mentioned during her concert that she wanted to own her own music since she was a teenager. With Big Machine Records out of the picture, she must re-record her albums to make them truly hers - a decision her fans embraced and celebrated.
To date, Swift has re-recorded three of her albums: "Fearless (2021)," "Speak Now (2023)," and Red (2021)," per Capital FM. 1989 will be the fourth re-record album under her belt, with "reputation" and her first album, "Taylor Swift," remaining on her list.
