Donald Trump is back on Twitter somewhat.
The former US president recently went back on Twitter, now known as X.com, to only post his mugshot on the platform once he's booked at the Fulton County Jail in Georgia.
The former US president was jailed thanks to his surrender on charges that he illegally schemed to overturn the 2020 election in the state, per the Associated Press.
A Rallying Cry?
Trump's return to Twitter is a sensational one after years of absence on the platform. According to a Reuters report, the former president recently surrendered himself to the Fulton County Jail in Georgia on RICO and conspiracy charges to overturn the results of the 2020 elections.
Thanks to his surrender, Trump and his team managed to acquire a copy of his mugshot that Trump (or someone from his team) posted on Twitter, now known as X.com, to garner support for himself.
The mugshot, which shows a scowling Trump, is accompanied by two statements: " Election Interference" and "Never Surrender!" It was even captioned with a hyperlink to his website, where his mugshot is prominently featured, along with a lengthy note regarding his surrender.
A quick look on his website says that Trump will never surrender the US to"the Left's tyranny" despite the "many vicious lies and attacks they throw [his way]." It also encouraged people to to contribute money to help "evict Crooked Joe Biden from the White House and 'Save America'."
Trump's post has been viewed 66.7 million times, liked by 741.2 thousand people, and has received 135,000 comments as of press time, with most of them welcoming the former president back and giving them their support. Some, like Arizona gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake, called the mugshot's posting a rallying for his supporters - an idea supported by the well-wishes in the post's comments section.
Trump didn't stay in the Fulton County Jail for too long despite being given an inmate number - the former president was released on a $200,000 bond and is on his way home to New Jersey. Despite this, Trump's mugshot also made history - cause of it, Trump is the first (former) US president to ever pose for a mugshot.
The Circle Is Now Complete
Trump's life on Twitter is now complete. You may recall that the former president extensively used Twitter as his social media platform of choice to voice his opinion during his campaigning days and presidency.
However, he lost his Twitter privileges shortly after the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol siege, where he encouraged people to storm the government building to prevent then-presidential candidate Joe Biden from becoming the next president.
He did get his account back on the platform when Twitter's new CEO, Elon Musk, restored it to him shortly after he took over the company in late 2022. Unfortunately, he was contractually obligated to stay in his own "alternative" social media platform, Truth Social, preventing him from posting anything there until June.
