X New Policy Will Collect Biometric Data, Job, School History

X, formerly known as Twitter, recently made changes to its privacy policy which includes the collection of biometric data.

X New Policy Concerns Private Data

In a Bloomberg report, the changes was confirmed by a San Francisco-based X representative. However, there was no further explanation given about the new policy.

According to the X Privacy Policy, that some personal information must be provided by the user so that X can give products and services suited for each user. Under the biometric information, X stated that they may collect and use the biometric information for "safety, security, and identification purposes." X did not expound on the safety and security concerns.

In addition, X is allowed to collect and use your employment history, educational history, employment preference, job search activity, and more. The policy might be in line with X's plan to integrate job search on the platform.

Social Media Companies are Known for Collecting Such Data

For years, social media platforms have been collecting personal information to from its users. Most of the time, the collected data are used for personalized advertising on the platform. It usually includes the data based on your engagement, likes, shares, and posts on the platform.

As of writing it is still unclear on how X will collect biometrics and what would be the impact of these new policies. For now, the current X privacy policy is still effective until September 29.
