Marvel's Spider-Man 2 Will Need 98GB of Storage Space

PlayStation 5 gamers will need more space to play Marvel's Spider-Man 2.

A recent leak about the game revealed that the much-awaited game will take around 100GB of storage space for them to play on the PS5.

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is set for release on Oct. 20 exclusively for the PS5. Sony will release a limited edition PS5 bundle that includes limited edition console covers and a DualSense Wireless Controller on Sept. 1, per PlayStation Blog.

With Great Gameplay Comes Great Storage Requirements

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 brings a lot to Marvel and Spider-Man fans alike. The game allows players to control Peter Parker or Miles Morales at some point to protect New York City from a new set of villains.

These villains include Kraven, Lizard, and Venom.

Speaking of Venom, the game also provides gamers the opportunity to use abilities granted to Peter thanks to his binding with the black Symbiote. However, we could lose access to these abilities at some point in the game, as it will lead to the introduction of Venom.

While these features sound exciting, the game's ambitiousness costs storage space that some PS5 gamers might not have due to the same high demand found in the game's contemporaries. An X.com/Twitter user revealed a photo of the Spider-Man 2 limited PS5 edition with a caption saying that the game officially requires "a minimum of 98GB per the official Marvel's Spider-Man 2 Limited Edition Console Bundle Retail Box."

Interestingly, the community director of Insomniac Games, James Stevenson, responded to the tweet with a GIF that seemingly confirmed that the game would take a lot of storage for PS5 gamers to play it. Stevenson's tweet might hint that this storage requirement is true; Marvel's Spider-Man 2 does have a lot to offer, which drives up the required storage space, as previously established.

By contrast, Marvel's Spider-Man (2018) has a storage space requirement of only 45GB with the content it has before its remastering for the PlayStation 5. This difference means that Marvel's Spider-Man 2 has enough content for two copies of the original game and then some for good measure. Whether this increase means better quality is difficult to determine.

However, gamers should take any unofficial information with a grain of salt unless the developers confirm it; they may have to wait for the game's release to see if this leak is true.

Par For the (Triple-A) Course

Marvel's Spider-Man 2's storage requirement is big, but compared to the games released for this console generation, the game's requirement is smaller than the big names in the gaming industry.

According to The Gamer's report, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War requires 175GB of storage space for it to be playable, while Star Wars: Jedi Survivor, a single-player game like Marvel's Spider-Man 2, needs 148GB.

The game that Marvel's Spier-Man 2's storage requirement is the closest to is Sniper Elite 5 and Far Cry 6, which requires 91.4GB and 101GB, respectively.
