Sprint LG G Flex press render leaks

LG will be bringing its curved display G Flex to U.S. carriers in the near future. An image of Sprint's G Flex press render has just leaked.

Samsung and LG were in a race to release the first smartphone with a flexible display. Samsung managed to edge out LG by officially announcing its curved display Galaxy Round first, and LG soon followed with its own flexible display smartphone, the LG G Flex. Samsung took the approach of curving its display from side-to-side, while LG chose to release the G Flex with a top to bottom curve. It's still too early to tell which design will be more beneficial to consumers, but unlike Samsung, LG has already started to ship the G Flex to many regions. Samsung has released the Galaxy Round in Korea for now; the smartphone can also be purchased unlocked through various retailers, but getting your hands on this elusive handset will set you back over $1,000.00.

The LG G Flex is expected to make its debut in the U.S. in the near future on AT&T, Sprint, and T-Mobile. The smartphone has already received FCC approval for Sprint and thanks to a new leak, we've got the first reported press render of Sprint's LG G Flex.

The always-reliable @evleaks has once again shared an image of an upcoming and unannounced smartphone. The tipster posted a press image of Sprint's LG G Flex and also shared the handset's model number of "LS995."

As a reminder, the LG G Flex features a 6-inch curved 1280 x 720 OLED display with a pixel density of 245 pixels per inch (ppi) and it's running Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean. It's powered by a 2.26GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor and an Adreno 330 graphics processing unit (GPU).

LG ships the G Flex with 32GB of internal storage (no microSD expansion slot) and 2GB of RAM. The handset is also packing in a 13-megapixel rear camera with autofocus, LED flash and the ability to record 1080p video @60fps, as well as a 2.1-megapixel front-facing camera for video chat. Its wireless connectivity options consist of a 4G LTE radio, dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 4.0 LE (low energy), GPS, and NFC. The smartphone uses a non-removable 3,500 mAh battery. It also has a special coating on the back of its case that can heal itself from small scratches.

The tipster hasn't revealed when we might expect to see Sprint offer the G Flex, but current rumors claim the smartphone will likely launch on Sprint, AT&T, and T-Mobile is early 2014. Once we hear more concrete details, we'll be sure to update you.
