The "Boston Strangler" film follows the story of Loretta McLaughlin, a reporter who was investigating murder cases in Boston, as she tries to unveil the truth about these strange cases. The film received some praises by being historically accurate with the details of the crimes and even some of the moments that the female reporters experienced during the 60s.
The nickname Boston Strangler was given to the serial killer who was famous for killing through strangulation during the 1960s. It was also reported that he sexually assaulted his victims before strangling them to death.
'Believe Me: The Abduction of Lisa McVey' (2018)
The "Believe Me: The Abduction of Lisa McVey" film narrates the gruesome story of McVey who was reportedly abducted and raped by a serial killer in 1984. The producers of the film also made a special screening in the same theater where the serial killer, Bobby Joe Long, was arrested.
Unlike most of the true crime shows, "Believe Me: The Abduction of Lisa McVey" portrayed McVey to be successful as a deputy sergeant with an advocacy to prevent young people to experience what happened to her. The film garnered awards for its screenplay and was also nominated for performances awards which gives more reason not to miss this movie.
'Escaping the Nxvim Cult: A Mother's Fight to Save Her Daughter' (2019)
The film follows the story of how Catherine Oxenberg found that her daughter has joined the NXIVM organization. Many applauded the film for its great portrayal of how cult-like organizations can change ones life and how some of these can be dangerous.
For years, NXIVM had been under legal investigations. In 2018, cult leader, Keith Raniere, was convicted of sex trafficking, racketeering, and conspiracy.
'Fantastic Lies' (2016)
"Fantastic Lies" is based on the widely-talked criminal case known as the Duke lacrosse case in 2016. The media quickly got on the hype of the case, wherein the lacrosse team was accused of sexually assaulting and raping a hired stripper.
The case film centers on how media plays an important role in shaping the public's opinion. The film was known as a cautionary tale on the dangers of rushing judgment based on what the media is showing.
'The Jewel Thief' (2023)
"The Jewel Thief" tells the story of how Gerald Blanchard became the world's most ingenious thief." The film captured various events of Blanchard's and how people around him perceived him as a person.
In 1998, Blanchard stole a rare jewel from the Schonbrunn Palace in Vienna. He was also indicted for other counts of theft and fraud.
