WhatsApp New Instant Video Messages Feature Could Get a Toggle

WhatsApp wants to improve its instant video messaging feature.

The company is working on a feature that will allow WhatsApp users to toggle the ability to send instant video messages, giving them the flexibility they need to choose between that and voice messages.

WhatsApp previously rolled out its instant video messaging feature on July 27, per its official blog.

Improving An Improvement

WhatsApp's instant video messaging provides a real-time way for users to respond to chats with whatever they want to say and show in 60 seconds. Sending one is as simple and easy as sending a voice message. Users must tap the voice message icon to switch to sending instant videos. However, some prefer to send only voice messages or accidentally send instant video messages, unnecessarily consuming their data.

For these circumstances, WhatsApp is reportedly working on a new feature to improve this new feature. According to WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is developing a toggle to manage its new instant video messaging feature, allowing people to switch it off and on whenever they want.

Beta testers can try this toggle out after installing the latest WhatsApp beta for iOS 23.18.1.70 update from the TestFlight app. Those testing WhatsApp on Android phones can try the toggle out after installing the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.18.21 update from the Google Play Store.

Beta testers who sign up for the feature's beta may find the toggle in question in the app's Chat settings. Since WhatsApp's instant video messaging feature is enabled by default as of press time, the toggle gives users control over WhatsApp's new feature.

The development of such a toggle is a boon for people who prefer to send voice messages immediately rather than switch between that and instant video messaging. The same is also true for WhatsApp users who accidentally send instant video messages to others.

However, WhatsApp beta testers should keep in mind that the toggle doesn't prevent them from receiving instant video messages from others. The toggle only prevents the user from sending video messages when enabled, not to prevent their receipt.

WhatsApp didn't mention any release date for the toggle in question, though more beta testers could try the new feature soon. However, its simplicity could mean the company could soon release it along with other new features in a future update.

Interestingly enough, WhatsApp will likely continue building on its ionstant video messages feature in future updates based on user feedback, per Android Police. WhatsApp users should look out for new features improving the app's instant video messaging feature other than the previously mentioned toggle soon.

Other WhatsApp Features In Development

Aside from the instant video messaging toggle WhatsApp is developing, it is also working on other features to improve user experience. You may notice WhatsApp has been working on many other features at a rapid-fire pace - almost on a daily, to be exact.

You may recall that WhatsApp reportedly working on a feature that protects users' IP addresses when making or taking a call with the app by relaying them through its server. However, doing so could mean a drop in call quality due to the encryption and routing processes the call could go through.

Additionally, The company is also developing a passkey login/sign-in method to WhatsApp, giving users a more secure method to log into their accounts.
