Motorola releases Android 4.4.2 KitKat for Moto G with new and enhanced features

Motorola has announced that it has brought the Android 4.4.2 KitKat upgrade to its just-released Moto G in "record time".

The company is bringing an early Christmas present to customers who have purchased its latest smartphone, the Moto G. The company took to its blog to announce that Android 4.4.2 KitKat is now available for the Moto G and it has arrived in "record time".

The Android 4.4.2 KitKat update is for customers who purchased the Moto G through Motorola's online store or via Amazon. The company has announced that it will be releasing the update to Moto G in other regions soon, so if you purchased the device outside of the U.S., you can expect some KitKat sweetness in the near future.

Motorola has posted a changelog of what the Moto G Android 4.4.2 KitKat update includes:

"Android 4.4.2, KitKat, is the latest release of the Android platform. KitKat includes enhancements such as restyled status and navigation bars, a new full-screen mode, color emoji support, improved closed captioning support, stronger security, smarter power use, and more tools and capabilities for better app development."

Phone dialer - The update brings an improved phone app that includes the ability to look up contacts from the dial pad.

Camera - An enhanced "touch to focus" option with circular on-screen controls that can be dragged with your finger to adjust a photo's focus and exposure.

Gallery/Photo editing - The Gallery app now includes several new filter effects, which will allow you to draw on photos, enjoy advanced cropping capabilities, adjustments to exposure, color, contrast and more.

Printing - The update will now allow you to print photos, Google Docs, Gmail messages and other content via Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Hosted services such as Google Cloud Print and HP printers are also supported.

Hangouts - An updated version of Google Hangouts is includes that now supports integrated SMS and MMS messaging. You can also set Hangouts as the default SMS app on the Moto G.

Motorola will be rolling out the update, but if you'd like to get it now, without waiting for the OTA, follow these steps on your Moto G:

1. Go into the Settings App.

2. Select "About phone".

3. Select "System Updates".

4. Select "Download". Once the software is downloaded select "install".

5. Once the software is finished installing your Moto G will reboot and you'll be running Android 4.4.2 KitKat.
