Starfield Official Mod Tools To Arrive in 2024

Bethesda's official Creation Kit for Starfield is coming soon.

Company CEO Todd Howard recently revealed that Starfield's mod support will officially arrive sometime in 2024, giving savvy gamers a chance to add custom content with tools from Bethesda.

Bethesda released Starfield to a lukewarm reception, with the game's Metacritic user score at 5.6 and 6.4 for its PC and Xbox Series X versions, respectively.

Custom Content For Starfield

Despite some problems, Bethesda's latest game, Starfield, now has around 330,720 concurrent players as of press time on Steam, per The Gamer, easily beating The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim's a few days after its release. With this number, it is a guarantee that many of them are looking to add custom content to the game and maybe even add a few areas for other players to explore.

While there are some mods available for the game, none are made with Bethesda's official tools and are sharable on third-party sites like NexusMods. Additionally, the vast majority of mods already released for Starfield are still relatively limited in scope.

Thankfully, Howard promised in an interview with Famitsu that Bethesda will release the game's official mod support in 2024. Unfortunately, Howard's revelation doesn't specify if he meant the release of a Creation Kit for Starfield.

However, game publications like PC Gamer and Destructoid say he does mean it. If true, then Starfield players can soon create custom content using tools specifically for the game's Creation Engine 2, upload them, and download others' creations directly from Bethesda.

These custom content include new quests, items (i.e. weapons), as well as areas and even planets inspired by Bethesda's other franchises, like Fallout and The Elder Scrolls. As such, Starfield players could have their characters visit post-apocalyptic Earth and Tamriel to explore them and even meet and greet familiar characters.

When In 2024?

When Starfield's Creation Kit will come exactly remains to be seen. Historically, Bethesda isn't keen on releasing Creation Kit offerings for its games on time.

For those unaware, Bethesda released Skyrim's Creation Kit in Feb. 2012 - three months after the game's Nov. 11, 2011 release. Meanwhile, Fallout 4's Creation Kit arrived in April 2016 - five months after its Nov. 10, 2015 release.

Thankfully, past precedence shows that Starfield's Creation Kit won't be far ahead into the future, with it possibly arriving four to six months after its Sept. 6 release date. As such, this range puts the Creation Kit's release somewhere between January and March 2024.

Nevertheless, savvy gamers playing Starfield should soon prepare themselves for the release of Starfield's Creation Kit.

Starfield Background

For those unaware, Starfield is Bethesda's first space-based action-adventure RPG. The company's official Starfield website mentioned that the game is its "first new universe in over 25 years."

Players can create any character and embark on a journey to answer "humanity's greatest mystery." To do so, they must explore the stars and planets in the final frontier, much like in No Man's Sky.
