Epic Games, home of Fortnite, introduced its new chief creative officer and it is none other than Marvel's character designer, Charlie Wen.
Wen's Long History as Character Designer
For years, Wen has been working as concept artist and designer for Riot, Disney, Marvel, Sony and other big companies. Under the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), Wen was credited on his designs for "Thor", "Captain America: The First Avenger", "The Avengers", "Ant-Man," and more. He was also involved during the early art direction for "Black Panther."
Wen also worked on PlayStation's Kratos which included his early concepts with the iconic Blades of Chaos. He was so passionate about designing that he once drafted Kratos on napkins at the restaurant.
"A vision of Kratos came to me that needed to get out of my head and onto paper (or napkin) - he had wide double blades attached to his forearms by chains that he would fling around," he shared.
Fortnite's Future With Wen
Wen was hired after Donald Mustard retired from Epic Games. Mustard served nearly 25 years in the gaming industry, seven of those as the creative executive for Epic Games.
"I can't wait to now share in the future of Fortnite as a player alongside all of you! The teams are in the best hands and they are working on huge, jaw dropping, amazing things!!!" Mustard wrote on X.
It is no doubt that Fortnite is in good hands with Wen's addition to the team. Fortnite gained massive popularity due to its unique character skins and collaborations from various entertainment IPs. For now, fans would have to wait on how Wen will steer the bus on Fortnite.
