Thanks to online shopping, we don't have to set foot outside of our homes to purchase the things we want or need. Even groceries can be bought online now. Despite, the convenience, some people still prefer to go to physical stores because there are some disadvantages to online purchases.
Online Shopping
Pros
1. As mentioned before, the best thing about online shopping is the convenience. All you need is an internet connection and a device to browse stores with and you're good to go. Delivery services will just drop the product off on your doorstep.
2. It also gives you more options than physical stores. Some online stores get their stocks directly from the supplier, or supply the items themselves, so more often than not, you can expect that the product you want to purchase will be available.
3. You can factor in reviews when contemplating buying a product. Stores like Amazon have rating and review sections letting you know whether it's worth the buy. Sometimes, buyers even mention flaws or features that aren't mentioned in the descriptions.
Cons
1. You'll have to shoulder shipping costs when you want something delivered to you. Depending on the size and weight of the product, the delivery fee can even be pricier than the item you ordered. There are instances where the effort and gas are worth the trip to the store.
2. You might find yourself being a victim of fraud if you're not careful. Official stores are safe enough, but there are other online shops that could just be fishing for credit or debit card details. You could also be scammed into buying a product that only looks good in the picture.
3. Shipping can get rough, especially if your item is coming from overseas locations. It will go through several warehouses and trips, and they can be mishandled. This is especially true for fragile purchases. Your item may arrive broken even with protective layers like foam or bubble wrap.
Physical Shopping
Pros
1. You'll actually be able to see the product in person. You won't have to rely on descriptions that may not be accurate. For clothing, you can try it on and see how it looks or if it's the perfect fit. You can inspect electronics for damages or scratches before you purchase them as well.
2. Customer service is quicker. Physical stores are manned by employees who were trained to know about the products, so you'll be able to ask questions that you may have. Online stores take longer to respond to customer concerns or will use chatbots which are sometimes unhelpful.
3. You could buy all the things you need in one location. Especially if you're shopping in a mall, you'll have access to particular shops that sell the things you need. In most online shops, they charge separate shipping fees when you purchase from various vendors.
Cons
1. You'll have to come in during the hours that stores are open. Sure, stores are usually open between 10 to 12 hours, but a busy schedule might mean that you won't be able to come in even during those hours. Online stores, on the other hand, and available 24/7.
2. It takes more effort. You'll have to dress up, get out of the house, and drive or commute to the store. When you're tired after a long day and don't have the energy to interact with anyone, traditional shopping could be taxing.
3. It might cost more than when you buy it online. Buying from official stores means that you're purchasing the item directly from the company. Physical stores mean they have bills to pay like electricity and rent, and vendors will add those to the price of their items on top a little more for profit.
