The tech billionaire has earned a reputation for being the person who gets what he wants no matter what, although that's not entirely the case when it came to the Cyberpunk 2077 cameo he wanted. It's said that Elon Musk asked the game's developers to include him while holding a firearm.
He Was Included, In a Way
The $44 billion purchase of a social media company is proof that Musk is like a dog with a bone when he wants something for himself, so when he barged into the studio to ask for a cameo in the sci-fi game, the developers somehow added him in a quest.
The Tesla CEO biography by Walter Isaacson briefly recounted how he went in during a voice recording session for the game while Grimes, his ex and the mother of his three children, was recording for the voice of the character Lizzy Wizzy.
What's more odd is that Musk was holding a firearm when he went in, which was said to be a 200-year-old gun, as reported by Gizmodo. However, the tech billionaire did clarify that he was not dangerous despite being armed.
His words were not as comforting, apparently, since according to Grimes, "The studio guys were sweating." They did agree, but you won't actually see Musk's face in the game. Rather, you'd encounter a character inspired by him and his relationship with the artist.
Isaacson even said in the book that the cybernetic implants that were used by almost everyone in the game were the "sci-fi" version of the brain-computer interface being developed in Neuralink, which Musk is the CEO of.
How He Was Included
As you may know, the game character Lizzy Wizzy was also a musician just like Grimes. In a side quest, the protagonist, V was asked to find out whether or not her boyfriend, who was also her manager, was cheating on her.
V soon finds out that her boyfriend Liam Northom was not exactly cheating with someone. But, he was planning something nefarious for the pop star. Northom wanted to create a "backup" Lizzy by copying who she is in an engram.
In case you haven't played the game, a giant corporation called Arasaka managed to find a way to put a person's consciousness in a chip. One could say that it's a parallel with one of Musk's companies, Neuralink, although it's a bit of a reach.
V ended up telling Lizzy what Liam's plans were and sent her the CCTV footage of her manager talking about it. And that's the end of that part until Lizzy Wizzy calls V again later on to meet at the same motel for an emergency.
As it turns out, the artist confronts Liam about the footage and his plans for her. In the heat of the moment, Lizzy said that she pushed him without realizing her strength, but upon assessing the wounds, V realized that she actually strangled him.
The developers may have ended up creating this storyline with Lizzy Wizzy being Grimes and Elon Musk being Liam Northom. Funnily enough, you'll be tasked to dispose of the body and you can throw the Elon Musk-inspired character in the trash.
