Transferring data from an Android phone to an iPhone 15 might not be possible at release.
A YouTube Short from PetaPixel revealed that transferring data between the two smartphones seems to be impossible to do as of press time, preventing people from switching to either phone.
Transferring data from an iPhone to an Android phone (and vice versa) is possible depending on what method you want to use.
Data Transfer Dismay?
The iPhone 15 may be Apple's best smartphone yet. Once it is released for public purchase on Sept. 22, it will come with new features thanks to new hardware and Apple's new iOS 17 software update. More interestingly, the iPhone 15 is also the first iPhone Apple made that exclusively features a USB-C port and data cable - its predecessors, such as the iPhone 14, only have Apple's proprietary Lightning port and cable.
However, only the iPhone 15 Pro models can transfer data over a cable at 10 Gbps, providing users with USB 3 data transfer speeds. The standard models, however, could only handle data transfers over a cable at 480 Mbps - the speed of Apple's Lightning cable.
Unfortunately, the handicap Apple placed on its USB-C port doesn't stop there. According to a YouTube Short from PetaPixel (via Android Authority), a photography-focused publication, data transfers between an Android phone and an iPhone 15 (and vice versa) over a USB-C to USB-C cable is impossible as of press time.
Such a process shouldn't be impossible. You may recall that there are various methods to transfer data from an iPhone and an Android phone and vice versa. However, one of the most reliable methods of transferring data between the two devices involves cables, or more specifically, a Lightning to USB-C cable.
Whether the inability to transfer data between the iPhone 15 to an Android phone (or vice versa) is the result of a lack of oversight on Apple's part remains to be seen. However, Android Authority did mention that the iPhone 15 PetaPixel (and other publications) received are review units.
As such, Android phone users wishing to transfer their data to an iPhone 15 will have to see if they can do so once Apple's iPhone 15 lineup becomes publicly available on Sept. 22.
What An iPhone 15 - Android Phone Connection Can Do (For Now)
PetaPixel's YouTube Short revealed more than the inability to transfer data between the iPhone 15 and an Android phone. The Short also showed that one of them started acting like a power bank, supplying battery charge to the other when connected via USB-C to USB-C cable.
Android Authority sees this occurrence as evidence of their connection's erratic behavior, especially for charging.
Whether Apple will provide software that fixes this erratic behavior and the inability to transfer data from an android phone to its iPhone 15 phone remains to be seen. As it is, Android users wishing to switch to an iPhone 15 might want to wait before purchasing one.
