5 Innovations That Might Be the New Normal in 50 Years

We are heading towards a future that looks a lot like a sci-fi film. More brilliant minds band together to invent tools and alternatives that are better for humans and the world. In 50 years, our version of normal might not even exist anymore.

1. Cultured Meat

We don't really have a shortage of meat, but the problem lies in the production. In order to supply enough for the demand, animals like cows or pigs need to be bred. This kind of process produces a lot of methane, carbon dioxide, and nitrous oxide.

These gases contribute to global warming. The bigger the population grows, the more animals need to be bred. There are already companies that are working on creating cultured meat. Soon enough, we might find ourselves consuming beef or chicken that was made in a lab.

2. Brain-Computer Interface

There's still a lot of doubt about brain chips since they're relatively new. However, there might be a future where a brain-computer interface will be needed to better "communicate" with smart electronics. It could serve as a direct line to AI assistants as well.

Instead of asking Alexa to call a loved one, your brain can relay those commands instead. Neuralink has already been approved for human trials, so we are one step closer to it becoming a reality. Plus, it can be used to allow those with limited to no mobility to move again.

3. All Self-Driving Cars

This might still be far off, but we are already heading in that direction. Automakers are already shifting their production to electric vehicles. Tesla already has a semi-working self-driving system which could catch on to other companies soon enough.

It will take a lot of changes in the traffic system to accommodate the idea, but it's possible. Cars can be programmed to follow designated roads and traffic rules. It can even lead to faster travel times and people can get more things done on the journey.

The field of robotics has seen many impressive advancements through the years. Machines can now do automated factory work, with some even performing surgery. A lot of companies are racing to create humanoid robots that can do mundane work.

It's possible that 50 years from now, there will be households that have their own humanoid robot assistant capable of many things like cooking, cleaning, doing the laundry, and more. It'll hold data such as food recipes or best cleaning practices for certain situations.

5. Robotic Prosthetics/Exoskeletons

Once the brain-computer interface technology takes off, it opens a lot of possibilities for robotic body parts. People who were born without arms or legs can turn to cybernetics, and they'll be able to control it using a brain chip.

It's even possible that people who were born blind can use cameras as eyes. Robotic parts or exoskeltons can serve various purposes like jumping higher, running faster, lifting heavier things, seeing distances clearer, and more. The possibilities are endless.
