Meta Tests AI Chatbots for Youngsters

The company has been testing the chatbots among its employees and is said to be preparing to announce it at the upcoming Meta Connect conference this Wednesday. Meta has been focusing on ways to entice younger users to use its platforms after the successful launch of TikTok.

The chatbots will be used to increase engagement among users as the company seeks to cater more the young adults in the future. Meta is not alone in this venture as other tech companies have started to incorporate AI into their services like Snapchat's My AI.

However, WSJ reported that some Meta's early chatbot tests were bundled with confusion and awkwardness between conversations. Meta has probably fixed some of these issues prior to its launch but we can never be so sure.

Meta Gen AI Personas

Last August, Meta was first reportedly working on the personas. Some of the reports showed that it can take various characters from Abraham Lincoln to a traveling surfer. Recent development showed that the company also worked on a product that will allow celebrities and creators to use their own AI chatbot to create interactions among their fans.

In a document obtained by WSJ, a chatbot is known to be a "sassmaster general that has superior intellect, sharp wit, and biting sarcasm." The bot is named, "Bob the robot."

However, researchers and tech employees discovered the challenges of giving personalities to the chatbots. For instance, responses could get more toxic, sarcastic, or even uncomfortable. On the other hand, former Snap and Instagram executive Meghana Dhar emphasized that the main purpose of all of these is to drive longer app usage to increase Meta's chance of serving its users some ads.
