The Moto G has been available unlocked for AT&T and T-Mobile's networks and now an image of the device with Verizon prepaid packaging has appeared.
When Motorola officially announced the Moto G, its focus was to offer customers a smartphone with impressive specs at a very affordable price. The Moto G shares a similar design to the company's flagship Moto X, which has remained a U.S. exclusive. Motorola also designed the Moto G to be somewhat customizable through the use of different color removable back plates and cases.
Motorola originally said the Moto G would be available for sale in the U.S. in early 2014. The company surprised everyone when it announced the unlocked Moto G was available through its website in late November. Motorola also confirmed that a CDMA version of the Moto G would also be coming in January, signaling an expected release on Verizon and Sprint's 3G CDMA networks. Motorola was able to ship the GSM Moto G months before its expected release but now it seems that the company plans on sticking to its announced timeline, as an image of a Verizon pre-paid Moto G was spotted.
A Best Buy Mobile employee posted the above image to his Google+ page, giving the world a glimpse of the no-contract Verizon Moto G all dressed up in its retail packaging.
As a reminder, the Moto G features a 4.5-inch 1280 x 720 LCD display with a pixel density of 329 pixels per inch (ppi). Motorola has chosen to use a 1.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor with MSM 8x26, Adreno 305 graphics and 1GB of RAM. It will pack 8GB of internal storage and will also benefit from 50GB of cloud space through Google Drive for two years.
The smartphone's camera capabilities include a 5-megapixel rear camera with some cool tricks, including 4x digital zoom, panorama, and slow motion video. It will ship with Android 4.4 KitKat. You'll also find a 3G radio, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, and GPS. Motorola ships the Moto G with a 2,070 mah non-removable battery.
The source is not sure when the smartphone will officially go on sale, but suggests that the Verizon Moto G will cost around $100 when it's released.
