Adobe and other imaging companies launched the Content Credentials symbol as part of the Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity (C2PA).
Content Credential Marks AI-Generated Content
Adobe is joined by Camera Bits, Leica, Microsoft, Nikon, Publicis Groupe, and Truepic in implementing the Content Credentials. The symbol abides with the C2PA and the Content Authenticity Initiative which promotes an open and transparent Internet.
The idea was made as a way to combat the ever-evolving usage of generative AI, especially in the graphics industry. Using the Content Credentials technology will reveal the important information that will link if an image is AI or not. The tag includes critical information such as how the image was made, the date when it was created, and the date it was edited.
"With this information at your fingertips, you have the ability to decide if you trust the content you see-understanding what it is and how much editing or manipulation it went through," the announcement stated.
How Content Credentials Work
Creators can attach the Content Credentials symbol to their content. All information that will be made will be automatically added to the edit history of the content. Anyone on the Internet can view the Content Credentials with just a simple click on the "cr" symbol located at the upper right corner.
What makes it interesting is that Content Credentials are capable of capturing all the history of changes in the content over time. Using the Verify feature, viewers will be provided with a detailed history of the content.
The Content Credentials symbol should be expected soon to pop up on more content as it rolls out its implementation through its partners.
