Roblox's founder and CEO David Baszucki announced in a memo that the company is returning to the office with remote workers reporting onsite from Tuesday through Thursday.
Roblox to Abolish Full-Time Remote Working
According to the memo, the remote employees will be provided by the company should they need to relocate near the office. However, the employees who are not willing to comply with the new employee memo will have to start finding a job elsewhere.
While Baszucki acknowledged how productive and impressive remote work is for Roblox, he stated that nothing beats the efficiency of working at the office. "We did not make this decision lightly, as we understand that the decision to move is significant, both for our employees and for their families and loved ones," Baszucki wrote.
Starting next summer, the remote employees are expected to go back to work at Roblox's headquarters in San Mateo, California. All remote employees will be given an instructional email about how their roles will be affected.
Roblox Affirms That the Transition is Systematic and Fair
Further down the note, Baszucki explained that some remote employees will not be asked to return. This includes the teams and roles that are required to be remote such as data centers, moderators, call centers, and others. In addition, individuals who have niche skill sets will also not be included.
Employees who are not able to relocate will still have until April 15, 2024, to transition out of their roles as full-time employees. Meanwhile, employees who choose to let go of Roblox will receive a severance package based on their individual level and terms of service. The employees who will comply and relocate will begin to work at the San Mateo offices by July 15, 2024.
"Our highest and most immediate priority is supporting our remote employees whom we have asked to begin working from our offices, whatever decision they make, and ensuring that our teams have what they need to continue to meet our aggressive goals for this year and next," the CEO added.
