Best Buy has the $99.99 prepaid Verizon Moto G for sale days before Verizon's Jan. 9 release date

Verizon just announced it would begin selling the Moto G on Jan. 9 but Best Buy apparently could not wait, as it has the smartphone online and in retail stores.

The Moto G was designed to be a cheaper alternative to Motorola's flagship Moto X. The smartphone has a similar design and it even has interchangeable back plates to make it somewhat customizable. The Moto G also brings a smartphone with impressive specs at a very affordable price. While there are some tradeoffs such as no 4G LTE radio (3G Data only), the handset does have a 4.5-inch 720p display and one of the latest current quad-core processors inside.

Motorola wanted to offer smartphone users a relatively inexpensive smartphone that didn't sacrifice features for price. The smartphone has been on sale since November unlocked through Motorola's site and Amazon. That particular model, however, is only capable of running on AT&T and T-Mobile's 3G GSM network. We just told you Verizon had announced it would offer the Moto G beginning on Jan.9 for $99.99. If you don't feel like waiting, you can score the smartphone a few days early.

Best Buy isn't following Verizon's Jan.9 launch date and is already selling the Moto G online and in its retail stores. It is selling the Verizon Moto G for the same price as Verizon, i.e. $99.99, and it is also including free shipping with the order and a head start on anyone waiting until the 9th to score the impressive budget smartphone.

As a reminder, the Moto G features a 4.5-inch 1280 x 720 LCD display with a pixel density of 329 pixels per inch (ppi). Motorola has chosen to use a 1.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor with MSM 8x26, Adreno 305 graphics and 1GB of RAM. It will pack 8GB of internal storage and will also benefit from 50GB of cloud space through Google Drive for two years.

The smartphone's camera capabilities include a 5-megapixel rear camera with some cool tricks, including 4x digital zoom, panorama, and slow motion video. It will ship with Android 4.4 KitKat. You'll also find a 3G radio, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, and GPS. Motorola ships the Moto G with a 2,070 mah non-removable battery.

If you've been waiting for the Verizon Moto G, your local Best Buy likely has it in stock, but it's always best to check online or call before heading out.
