Netflix to Host First-Ever Live Sports Featuring F1 Drivers and Professional Golfers

For the first time ever, Netflix will stream its own live sports event that will feature athletes from "Formula 1: Drive to Survive" and "Full Swing" on November 14.

The Netflix Cup: Formula 1 Meets PGA Tour

The Netflix Cup will take place live from Wynn Las Vegas on November 14. Formula 1 drivers such as Alex Albon (Williams Racing), Pierre Gasly (BWT Alpine F1 Team), Lando Norris (McLaren Racing), and Carlos Sainz (Scuderia Ferrari) will be paired with PGA Tour Golfers Rickie Fowler, Max Homa, Colin Morikawa, and Justin Thomas.

The event will also kickstart the week of the Formula 1 Heineken Silver Las Vegas Grand Prix. Netflix Cup will be streaming live on Netflix at 3 p.m. PT or 6 p.m. ET on November 14. According to Netflix's VP of nonfiction sports Gabe Spitzer, the event was created to see how the platform's sports series contributed to the increasing fandom of the sports leagues around the world.

The Netflix Cup will be produced under Excel Sports Management, BZ Entertainment, and Full Day Productions. Four pairs of teams will play an eight-hole match with the top two teams advancing to the final whole. The champion will win the inaugural Netflix Cup title.

Netflix Invests in More Sports Documentaries

Netflix is home to the finest sports documentary series such as "Quarterback", "Tour de France: Unchained", "Break Point", and more. Currently, the platform is already working on a series that will follow athletes from track and field, soccer, rugby, and NASCAR.

With only five races left for the 2023 season, "Formula 1: Drive to Survive" is already producing its sixth season as the sport grows in popularity in the U.S. Prior to the series, Formula 1 was only popular amongst Europeans but the series has proven to be effective to bring the hype in the U.S. as well as to other countries. Meanwhile, "Full Swing" is already at the end of filming its second season.

"New and diverse audiences have come to know more about both our sports and their athletes through "Full Swing" and "Drive to Survive", and we are excited to team up with Netflix, Formula 1, and the Las Vegas Grand Prix on this exciting concept," PGA Tour's SVP for media and Gaming Norb Gambuzza shared.
