New images of LG's curved display and self-healing smartphone, the LG G Flex, have leaked with AT&T and T-Mobile branding.
Samsung might have beaten LG to the punch in bringing the first smartphone with a flexible display to the market with the launch of the Galaxy Round, but LG is set to get its 6-inch flexible G Flex self-healing smartphone actually into customers' hands. Samsung is currently selling the Galaxy Round in limited availability in South Korea and while you can purchase the smartphone unlocked to use in the U.S., the company has not made any announcement about officially bringing the Galaxy Round to the States. LG, on the other hand, has been selling its G Flex in many different markets and the smartphone has already received FCC certification in the U.S. for Sprint, AT&T, and T-Mobile.
It looks like AT&T and T-Mobile are preparing to launch the LG G Flex, as the always-reliable evleaks has posted images of the smartphone with AT&T and T-Mobile branding in tow. The tipster also listed the model numbers - AT&T's G Flex is D950, while T-Mobile's is listed as D959.
The LG G Flex features a 6-inch curved 1280 x 720 OLED display with a pixel density of 245 pixels per inch (ppi). It's powered by a 2.26GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, an Adreno 330 graphics processing unit (GPU) and 2GB of RAM. The smartphone includes 32GB of internal storage and runs Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean, although LG has already confirmed it will receive an upgrade to Android 4.4 KitKat in the near future.
The G Flex's camera capabilities include a 13-megapixel rear camera with autofocus, LED flash and the ability to record 1080p video @60fps, as well as a 2.1-megapixel front-facing camera for video chat. Its wireless connectivity options consist of a 4G LTE radio, dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 4.0 LE (low energy), GPS, and NFC. The smartphone uses a non-removable 3,500 mAh battery. LG has also used a special self-healing coating on the rear case of the smartphone that allows it to heal itself from minor scratches.
There's no official word on when we can expect to see the LG G Flex launched on AT&T and T-Mobile, but a CES announcement has been rumored. Stay tuned.
