Hiking can both serve as exercise and a way to unwind as you disconnect from the world. When it comes to tranquility, it's sometimes better to trek the mountains alone. However, doing so comes with multiple risks, which is why you should always be prepared.
Here's what you need.
1. Solar-Powered Charger
It goes without saying that you won't find any outlets in the mountains when you need to recharge your devices, which is why having a solar charger will definitely come in handy. Even if you want to disconnect for a bit, it's still better to have your phone ready for emergencies.
It's small enough that you can fit it in your bag. Since it's collapsible, you can expand it when you need a wider surface or even hang it on your bag using the hook as it faces sunlight. You can use any cord with a USB-A connector.
2. Handheld GPS Navigator
Even though you have a phone where you can pull up navigation apps, it's still advisable to have a digital navigator backup. Since you'll be hiking alone, you need to be prepared for the worst-case scenario since you'll be dealing with it yourself.
This already has a preloaded worldwide base map so you don't have to worry about losing signal. It's made for activities like hiking since it has an IPX7 rating against liquid. With two AA batteries, you can use the device for up to 20 hours.
3. Crank & Solar-Powered Flashlight
In the event that you plan to continue your adventure as night falls, you'll need a flashlight to see where you're going. Since it's the mountains, there are plenty of things you can trip on if you can't see what you're stepping on.
With it being solar-powered, you won't have to use up the energy on your solar charger. With the product being crank-powered as well, you can still use it even when the sun is not up. This can be useful if you happen to run out of battery during nighttime.

4. Electric Arc Lighter
Fire is your friend when it gets cold in the mountains or when you need to cook food. While having matches or normal flame lighters do the same job, electric lighters might be a better fit considering your environment.
For one, you won't run out of matches or lighter fluid. The arc lighter is rechargeable and also windproof, which you'll be thankful for when you're out there. It generates enough electricity to light up kindling, which is all you need, really.
5. Personal Locator Beacon
Whether you're new to hiking or not especially by yourself, having a personal beacon will provide you with somewhat of a safety net when you're lost or in trouble and all else fails. The tracker functions anywhere around the world making it easier for responders to find you.
It is already pre-programmed for registration with the US country code, but if you plan on hiking in a different country, there is a variation called "McMurdo Fast Find 220 PLB." Note that you need to register the beacon in order for it to work.
