Matter as Smart Home Essential
Matter is fairly new having just launched more than a year ago. Within that time the group has seen over 24,600 downloads of the spec and 1,214 certifications. Moreover, there was an increase of 24 percent in the number of companies that joined the Matter Working Group.
For Matter 1.2, the Connectivity Standards Alliance (CSA) brings new layers of interoperability, security, and reliability for various smart home devices. At the same time, it also promotes simplicity, making everyday life easier for users.
For instance, refrigerators and room air conditioners can now do beyond basic temperature control. For dishwashers, alarms are now supported which can detect operational errors. Laundry washers have now a progress notification that notifies the user via Matter when a cycle has been completed.
When it comes to robotic vacuums, there is now support for various cleaning modes like dry vacuuming and wet mopping. It also includes status details on the brushes, errors, and charging. On the other hand, smart devices that handle air quality are now supported with sensors that detects and reports any irregularities.
Matter Prepares for Holiday Season
Appliance is one of the most sought purchases during holidays. Matter assured that users will see more products available in the retail stores this holiday.
"Turning the calendar to 2024, Matter will continue to expand its footprint across the smart home, across the IoT ecosystem, and in the minds of consumers," CSA wrote.
Meanwhile, customers can now expect to have their products be Matter-enabled. They can also look forward to two new updates next year as part of the bi-annual release goal of the group.
