Meta is still trying to get users to spend their time on Threads, especially since active users have gone way down since its release. The company's way of making that happen is by placing Threads posts on Facebook in an attempt to lead people to the microblogging platform.
Threads Posts on Facebook
Facebook is already an established social media platform with billions of monthly active users, so it only makes sense that Meta will try and use it to promote its new social media site that's still trying to find its footing. It is, after all, the same place where you can find Instagram Reels.
A user pointed out on X, formerly known as Twitter, that Meta is using Facebook to boost Threads' reach. The company responded by saying that they've "launched an update to make it easier for people to see the latest content from Threads directly on Facebook and Instagram."
This isn't a new promotion method for Meta with all its apps. The Instagram Reels you can find on Facebook will lead you to the main app when you open the comments, and Threads posts have also been appearing in the photo-centric app since August.
However, the Threads posts on Facebook are not optional, meaning that people don't have the ability to remove their posts on Facebook, as per Engadget. This can be a problem since some people don't want their posts from Threads to reach Facebook.
Online users tend to choose the appropriate posts for each social media platform. Those from the younger generation tend to be more open on Instagram, X, and Threads, compared to Facebook since older family members are there.
There's a chance that Meta might resolve the issue by adding an option that lets you keep your Threads posts from reaching other platforms under Meta. The company did say that they are "listening to feedback like yours as we continue to build on this" in response to a Threads user.
A Much-Needed Promotion
It's not actually a bad idea to present Threads posts on Facebook, especially since Threads is in need of more users as it declines more and more. The problem lies in the users' inability to opt out but that can easily be fixed by Meta.
Threads is in a great position to replace X, especially since it has features that people go to X for. However, it's just not clicking and people still go the Elon Musk's microblogging site even if he continues to strip it of the features that everyone has come to love.
When it was released, it managed to get millions of active users in just its first week. It helped that it was already linked to Instagram so that users could just follow the people they already knew from the photo-posting app.
Sadly, those impressive numbers did not last. According to The Guardian, Threads went from 2.3 million active users in July, and have dropped down 79% to just 576,000 users by August. That's a far cry from the 100 million sign-ups that Threads got on the first week.
