Xreal, the rebranded company of Nreal, launched its new augmented reality (AR) headset, Xreal Air 2, which offers improved display and more comfort.
Xreal Air 2
Nreal has been selling smaller AR glasses since 2021 before rebranding into Xreal which stands for "extra", according to the company. The new device was initially launched in China first before the company released it in Europe and the U.S.
The Xreal Air 2 is equipped with the latest micro-OLED panels from Sony which promises a lighter and thinner design. In addition, it also promotes lower power consumption. Apple is also reportedly using the same Micro-OLED for the Vision Pro mixed reality headset.
When it comes to the audio, Xreal Air 2 delivers a rich spatial sound with the use of Directional Audio technology. It offers a cinematic sound but at the same time assures privacy and minimal disturbances to others. Xreal also improved voice and video calls, making it possible to take audio from a smartphone or table.
Xreal Introduces Air 2 Pro
Xreal also up its game by launching a Pro model of the Air 2. The device features an electrochromic dimming that has three modes: transparent, productivity, and immersive. The transparent mode allows the user to use the glasses while still seeing the outside world. Meanwhile, the productivity mode blocks 35 percent of the light, ensuring better focus without losing sight of the surroundings completely. Lastly, the immersive mode is perfect for gaming and entertainment as it blocks all light.
The Xreal Air 2 is an impressive device that mainly targets people who are inclined to watch videos, play games, and more. Unlike other headsets, the XReal devices are not equipped with cameras or motion sensors which makes it more like a personal projector.
Regardless, XReal offers various products under its belt. The Air 2 is available in black and red for $399 while the Air 2 Pro is priced at $449. Shipping will begin in the U.S. and the U.K. in November and December for elsewhere in Europe.
