Cat-Game Stray Will Soon Be Released for macOS

Stray has become one of the most loved games in the last years, mostly because players get to take on the role of a lost cat navigating through a dystopian city. By next month, macOS users will get to experience it for themselves.

Stray on Mac Devices

Annapurna Interactive, the studio behind the cat-centric game, has announced that the game is finally coming to Mac owners, which can be downloaded through the Mac App Store or Steam. However, there are certain limitations that might prevent them from playing the game.

For one, only recent systems will be able to download the Stray. The game is only compatible with Macs that have an Apple Silicon chipset, meaning that Apple computers running on Intel will not be able to join in on the fun, as reported by Engadget.

It has been a strange release timeline for the game. It has been available to PC and PlayStation players as early as July 2022, but it has only arrived on Xbox this August. Even later, macOS is getting the game this December 5th.

Despite getting the title late compared to other platforms, Apple is making good progress with video games. Users of the iPhone 15 Pro and select iPad models are already able to run Resident Evil Village with more games on the way.

In fact, popular and more recent games will be added to the list soon such as Death Stranding, Assassin's Creed Mirage, and Resident Evil 4 Remake. If Apple intends to add more titles, iPhones might just be the next go-to for handheld consoles.

With the recent iPhone's hardware, it is capable of hardware-accelerated ray-tracing dynamic lighting effects as well. Paired with a controller made for iPhones, users will no longer have to buy separate handhelds to play the mentioned titles compatible with the latest flagship.

Playing the Game Before Watching the Movie

With the new game addition to macOS devices, its users will be able to play Stray and enjoy its atmosphere before seeing the movie adaptation. The animation studio behind the game is already developing the upcoming animated film.

"This is a game that's all about what makes us human, and there are no humans in it," Annapurna Animation head Robert Baird stated, and he is right. The interactions between the beloved ginger cat and the robots in the post-apocalyptic city are what make the game warm.

Baird also pointed out that it's a "buddy comedy about a cat and a robot" and how that can be a hilarious dynamic, as reported in Kotaku. "I think it's one of the reasons why the game was incredibly popular, that you are seeing the world through the point of view of an adorable cat."

Annapurna Animation is actually planning on making movie adaptations for several of its titles. Stray will be the first given that it was and still is "wildly popular," says Annapurna Animation's Andrew Millstein. With an already huge fanbase, the company has a huge chance of success for the upcoming animated film.
