A new report claims that Samsung will introduce both a plastic and metal Galaxy S5, along with two spinoffs of the flagship.
The company is reportedly working on a Galaxy S5 Mini and Galaxy S5 Zoom as well, to be introduced in May and June, respectively.
Samsung has already confirmed that when it officially announces the Galaxy S5, the smartphone will feature an all-new design. A company executive recently said in an interview that Samsung realizes how many customers didn't feel that there wasn't much of a difference in the physical perspective between the Galaxy S4 and the Galaxy S3. The company has been rumored to be working on a more premium-feeling Galaxy S5 that will ditch Samsung's love of plastic for a high-end metal case that could be similar to Apple's iPhone 5s. A new report claims Samsung will follow Apple and introduce both a plastic and a metal-clad Galaxy S5.
SamMobile is now reporting that it has heard from reliable sources that Samsung will launch two versions of the Galaxy S5. The site claims Samsung will take a page out of Apple's book by releasing two Galaxy S5 smartphones - a high-end metal version (like the iPhone 5s) and a less expensive, all plastic Galaxy S5 (like the iPhone 5c). The publication claims that the metal version will retail for around 540 Euros, while the plastic model will be around 650 Euros.
The Galaxy S5 will reportedly feature a much higher resolution display when compared to its Galaxy S4 predecessor. The site claims the screen is likely going to be a 5.25-inch AMOLED display with a whopping resolution of 2,560 x 1,440. It will have a 16-megapixel rear camera and will be powered by either a Samsung Exynos 6 or Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor. The site believes that the metal Galaxy S5 will likely use a 64-bit Exynos processor, while the plastic model could be powered by the Snapdragon processor.
The publication also goes on to say that it has been able to confirm that Samsung will launch the Galaxy S5 Mini and Galaxy S5 Zoom sometime after the launch of the Galaxy S5 (similar to the S4 Mini and S4 Zoom spinoffs). It believes that the devices will be announced sometime in May and June. Both smartphones will reportedly use Super AMOLED displays and run Android 4.4 KitKat out of the box. There was no mention of any other details regarding either handset.
