Uber Goes After False Allegations, Bad Rating Refund Schemes

Uber is clamping down on passengers throwing false allegations and low ratings to drivers for a possible refund.

The ride-hailing company announced its new policy to protect Uber drivers and couriers from account deactivation over pretense in a bid to be the "fairest platform for flexible work."

The updated policy comes with a new system to pinpoint users filing complaints to simply get a refund or other appeasements.

Customer allegations will not be considered in the operators' ratings or account deactivation decisions. Drivers and couriers can only be dismissed after Uber's Review Center investigations.

Uber has been excluding low ratings from driver's assessments due to unforeseen incidents outside of the drivers' control.

Uber Cracks Down on Abusive Riders

The new policy is the continuation of Uber's goal to combat unfair deactivations.

Uber has previously launched an audio recording feature for drivers, as well as in-car cameras to deter sexual assault and harassment.

At the same time, the ride-hailing giant is piloting voluntary drug tests for drivers to dispute allegations of driving under the influence or marijuana abuse.

Reports of Uber drivers losing jobs over fake DUI complaints have been going on since 2020 after the company's lack of policy to protect their operators. There have even been cases of drivers being robbed and beaten during work.

Drivers and couriers have long protested against unfair deactivations and the lack of explanation. Many have already filed for a class-action lawsuit against Uber.

Uber New Policy Implementation

The company's new policy has been in effect in the U.S. since Monday.

Uber also now allows drivers to request an additional review over probable account deactivation.

If received well, the ride-hailing giant intends to launch the policies on international seas.
