Samsung announces 7-inch budget Galaxy Tab3 Lite

Samsung has officially announced its budget Galaxy Tab3 Lite, which features a 7-inch display and 8GB of internal storage.

The South Korean company has done a great job in offering consumers smartphones ranging from its flagship and powerful Galaxy Note 3 to its 3.5-inch pre-paid Platinum Illusion for Verizon Wireless. The company loves to cover all of its bases from the high-end to the low-end and everything in between. In a recent interview, a Samsung executive confirmed that the company was going to put more of its resources in its Galaxy tablet line in 2014 as it seeks to do with tablets what it has done with smartphones, i.e. offer devices with varying sized displays and prices.

Samsung unveiled its latest high-end Galaxy TabPRO and Galaxy NotePRO at CES, offering two high-end tablets packed with 12.2-inch high-resolution displays and top of the line specs. The company has now just announced the Galaxy Tab3 Lite, which has been designed to cater to the low-end tablet market and will be available in both a Wi-Fi and 3G variant.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab3 Lite features a 7-inch LCD display with a resolution of 1024 x 600 and a pixel density of 169 pixels per inch (ppi), which Samsung describes as "optimal resolution designed to bring users a better viewing experience." The tablet is powered by a 1.2GHz dual-core processor and 1GB of RAM. It ships with 8GB of internal storage and a microSD expansion slot that supports up to 32GB microSD cards to further increase its storage.

The device runs Android 4.2 Jelly Bean (Samsung makes no mention of future Android updates) along with Samsung's TouchWiz Nature UX user interface. Its camera capabilities include a 2-megapixel rear camera with Smile Shot, Shoot & Share, and Panorama Shot. In terms of wireless connectivity, it's packing Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS, and HSPA+ (3G model). The Galaxy Tab3 Lite ships with a 3,600 mAh battery that Samsung claims will provide up to 8 hours of video playback. It will be offered in choice of black or white.

Samsung has not announced specific availability and pricing information for the Galaxy Tab3 Lite, but previous rumors claim the Wi-Fi model will retail for around $135. Once we hear official pricing and availability details we'll be sure to pass it on to you.
