There is still hope NieR fans!
The beloved NieR Series will continue as long as Creative Director Yoko Taro lives, game producer Yosuke Saito said.
The last entry to the series was the 2021 Nier Replicant, a remake of the original 2010 game.
Saito commented that current circumstances at the game's development studio, PlatinumGames, prevent them from releasing a new NieR game right away.
It is uncertain when will the next game released, but Saito hinted that he is working with Taro on a new project he hopes to release next year.
What to Expect for Future 'Nier Series' Games
PlatinumGames is tight-lipped on any details for future installments of the series.
Taro, however, recommended fans temper their expectations and expresses doubts about receiving the same success as the 2017 critically-acclaimed NieR: Automata.
The pair is uncertain any sequels could repeat the same cult of following Automata has, saying replicating its level of success will be "impossible."
Initially released on PC and PlayStation 4, NieR: Automata immediately sold 1.5 million copies worldwide.
Its subsequent release on Nintendo Switch and Xbox One garnered the game 7.5 million downloads and a 91% rating on Metacritic.
The NieR franchise currently has the NieR: Replicant and Automata for its main series with a mobile spin-off, NieR: Reincarnation, released in 2021.
NieR: Automata has also received an anime adaptation that covers one of the game's multiple endings. The series was aired last January with a second season on the way.
NieR Storyline
The NieR Series is set in a dystopian future where humanity uses androids to fight off an invading army of machines from another world.
The game is a mixture of the classic hack-and-slash, fast-paced bullet hell fights, and platforming.
The series is well known for having multiple endings with NieR: Automata recording 26 various endings that require at least three playthroughs of the game.
Silly as the characters and scenario may be, the series packs some emotional punch for those willing to lend their time.
