TikTok has been a place where users dig up old hits and give aspiring artists more exposure. With the new update from the short-form video app, musicians can use it to better reach their fans and promote their music.
TikTok's Artists Account
Those in the music industry can now activate their Artist Account to access unique features and tools that would help them promote their music. Through TikTok, they can entice new fans to listen to their content or increase engagement with existing listeners.
Once the account has been converted, the profile will add an "Artist" label under the user's TikTok username. A music tab will also appear alongside other tabs, which will hold the available music from the artist, making it easier for fans to discover their new content.
There's even a unique feature called "Behind the Song," which tells fans how the artist created the song, or what events inspired them to write it. Artists can even pin their preferred posts on top of their discovery page, as reported by The Verge.
When the artists have a new song, they can promote it under "New Release" up to two weeks before it's even released. It can be labeled as such even for 30 days so fans and other listeners can discover the track. This also applies to catalog sounds that are newly added to TikTok.
With the new feature, TikTok is becoming more of a multipurpose app with both short-form video streaming as well as music. After all, the platform has been trying to push into music streaming as well with TikTok Music, which was released earlier this year.
TikTok Golabl Head of Music Partnerships and Programming, Paul Hourican said that with the introduction of Artist Account, they are "proud to further empower artists by providing them with the tools they need to reach new heights on TikTok."
He added that alongside new features like "Add To Music App," they're"seeing how these features can deepen engagement "whilst creating unique opportunities for fans to connect with their favorite artists in meaningful ways."

TikTok Lets You Add Music to Other Apps
In case you found a song you like while scrolling through random videos on TikTok, you can now add that track to your preferred music streaming service. Thanks to TikTok's "Add to Musoc App" feature, the songs will automatically be added to your Spotify or Amazon Music account.
For Spotify users, the added music will immediately be included in their "Liked Songs" playlist. Amazon Music will create a new playlist just for the songs that were collected from TikTok. However, this only applies to users who are Prime members.
While there is already a default playlist where the songs are added to, users can also opt for a new playlist they have created or an existing one. The first music streaming app users choose to add music to will become the default platform for the feature.
TikTok Global Head of Music Business Development, Ole Obermann expressed that TikTok is "already the world's most powerful platform for music discovery and promotion, which helps artists connect with our global community to drive engagement with their music."
